McCaig and Noble delighted to add to rich history of Ecurie Ecosse with LMP3 Cup title
60 years after its famous Le Mans 24 Hours victory, Ecurie Ecosse added another title to its list of honours, as Alasdair McCaig and Colin Noble became the first ever Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup champions.
In a programme run by Nielsen Racing, the Scottish pairing fought all season with Tony Wells and Matt Bell from United Autosports, matching race victories and podiums all season long. In the end, a double win at the first round of the season at Donington Park in April was what made the difference and was enough for McCaig and Noble to secure the title.
“It’s been 60 years since Ecurie Ecosse won at Le Mans,” said McCaig. “So to win a championship is really special for them and our sponsors, as we well as everyone who has been involved this year.”
“It’s been really enjoyable year and results have come as well,” added Noble. “The team did a great job from the start. A lot of hard work has been put in by everyone.”
The prize for winning the championship is a funded entry into the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup. Noble has competed in the series this year, with Tony Wells, but McCaig is excited about the prospect of racing in Europe, as well as taking Ecurie Ecosse back to Le Mans as a support race for the famous 24 Hours.
“We’re absolutely over the moon to win the championship in its first year.” McCaig said. “Its great for Nielsen Racing and Ecurie Ecosse, and we’re looking forward to racing in the Michelin Le Mans Cup next season.”
“I’m really looking forward to competing on some of the European tracks next year,” said Noble. “It will be really exciting doing it with Alasdair who I’ve worked really well with this year.”
