Speedworks returns to LMP3 Cup for 2018
After a strong debut season in the LMP3 Cup, Speedworks Motorsport is returning to the series for 2018 after finishing the season in third place in the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championship standings.
Last year Butel, Dean Gibbs, Scott Mansell, Andrew Bentley, and Devon Modell all climbed behind the wheel of its Ligier JS P3, with Butel and Mansell taking third at Spa Francorchamps, Butel and Modell finishing second at Snetterton, and Butel claiming a superb solo victory in torrential rain at Donington Park at the end of the season.
The team has already been in race action this year, finishing in first place in class for race three of the Dubai 3x3 hours in January. “We really enjoyed our first foray into prototype racing in 2017 and cannot wait to get back into the LMP3 Cup,” said Christian Dick, Team Principal. “The Championship is really well organised and has competitive grids with a high-standard of racing. The chance to run drivers of any grading from Silver/Silver+ to Bronze/Bronze really opens up the opportunities for teams which is ideal.
“The move to racing on Michelin tyres is a big help with plans to run the cars across Europe, helping to reduce set up times and costs, and the circuits we run on in the LMP3 Cup are as good as any Championship in Europe. We are finalising our driver line up and will make announcements shortly, and are optimistic that we will enter two cars for the season.”
In addition to its racing programs, Speedworks also has a state-of-the-art simulator at its Cheshire base which can be adjusted to a range of cars – providing an affordable way to get comfortable with the Ligier JS P3 LMP3 car. In addition, the outfit has two exclusive test days planned in Portimao to evaluate drivers for its 2018 plans, with track time booked on 10th-13th February and 2nd-7th March.
