Superb Smith secures first LMP3 Cup victory in Donington Park thriller

Mectech Motorsport took a first LMP3 Cup victory for itself and the Norma M30, in the hands of Bradley Smith and Duncan Williams, at Donington Park. Williams started on pole but fell back to fourth during his stint as he was harried by the fast-starting Johnny Mowlem, Jack Butel, and Andrew Bentley.

Jason Rishover and Jamie Spence will return to the LMP3 Cup for 2018, making a title push as the pair's IAG Racing teams up with 360 Racing in a Ligier JS P3. The duo contested eight races last season with four podium finishes, though Spence suffered heartbreak as a puncture caused his retirement while leading at Brands Hatch.

The Jersey native added a brilliant solo win at Donington Park in the rain to third and second place finishes at Spa Francorchamps and Snetterton respectively, rounding off a hat-trick of podium finishes.

Experienced race team T-Sport is hopeful of a return to the LMP3 Cup in 2018 after bookending the season at both weekends at Donington Park last year. Switching from its traditional Formula 3 racing, the team competed on the opening weekend with Steve Tandy and Formula 1 racer and pundit Karun Chandhok scoring a podium in race one. At the final weekend Manhal Allos and Alex Kapadia teamed up in the Ligier JS P3, finishing sixth in the second race.

Bute Motorsport, with the support of the ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest), will allow entries from the Ligier JS P4 and Radical RXC into class PT4, providing an intriguing mix of prototype and sportscar racing.
