WELLS WITHSTANDS PAUL PRESSURE FOR SNETTERTON WIN
1 July 2018
Tony Wells and Colin Noble converted pole position into victory in a gruelling opening LMP3 Cup Championship race from Snetterton. Wells withstood early pressure in his stint from Speedworks Motorsport’s Dominic Paul before handing over to Noble who pulled clear for a fourth win of the season.
“Fair play to Dominic, because he had great pace”, said Wells. “The start went well, then I could see everybody fighting in my mirrors which was helpful, but he still caught me up. I thought ‘that wasn’t what I planned!’ I got my head down and tried, but the car was slightly oversteery on a full tank. I had a lairy moment through Coram, but apart from that it was great.”
WELLS STANDS THE HEAT WITH SCORCHING SNETTERTON POLE
1 July 2018
Tony Wells scorched to pole position in a baking hot LMP3 Cup Championship qualifying session on Snetterton’s 300 circuit. Wells put in an early effort good enough for the top spot, before sealing the deal with rapid late run to give himself and Colin Noble the early bragging rights ahead of a charging Dominic Paul.
“I think the temperature has made the track a little bit slick,” said Wells. “We tested here a month ago and we came with a set-up that we thought was perfect for the time. We had to make quite a lot of changes for this heat though and the car was absolutely nailed and has a lot more in it.”
Paul’s tactics differed from his main rivals as the Speedworks Motorsport car left the pits later than the cars around it, giving Paul additional breathing space for his sequence of flying laps. The result was a last-gasp effort that proved good enough for the front row, narrowly making it across the line with seconds to go to start the lap in question.

After a chaotic second race at Spa Francorchamps, Mectech Motorsport stood on the top step of the podium. With the disappointment of losing laps with a problem on Saturday it was the perfect way to bounce back for the outfit, and to give itself and Norma a second LMP3 Cup victory this season.
Drivers Duncan Williams and Bradley Smith kept calm heads to secure the victory as the #1 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Racing car pitted from the lead with a suspected puncture, while the #96 Speedworks machine crashed out of the lead before half-distance in a race shared with competitors from the GT Cup.
